【 THE WORLD BETWEEN WORLDS 】
Anstaz, a forgotten world. The world between all worlds. A world through which travelers pass, but never stay, forgetting their time there, its name, and its people.
Until now.
For reasons unknown, off-worlders have begun arriving, without the intention of passing through on their way elsewhere, and remaining here in Anstaz.

【 ARRIVAL 】
Your character arrives in an unknown lab with a portal that look straight out of the movie Stargate. The people who greet them explain that they've found themself in Anstaz, the world between all worlds. Usually, no one remembers passing through this world; no one stays who wasn't born here. But that's changed. Despite being a world for passing through, certain off-worlders simply aren't. Once here, they remain, unable to return.
Characters are provided with any medical care they need upon arrival. Any weapons they arrive with are initially removed, but returned upon the character's departure. The are given a smartphone-like device and advised that it is used to connect to the local network. The further outside the cities of Seisa and Samak one goes, the less reliable the device. Characters are shown out with a street atlas and a brochure for lodgings in a high-rise building in Seisa, the most populace area of Anstaz, to which they are taken by bus.
Near the river, both Seisa on the West and Samak on the East, appear like many modern Earth urban centers: high-rise buildings, shops, restaurants, parks, most things the modern world might have. However, the further one gets from the river in any direction, the more disarray they'll find. Roads begin to crumble, buildings in ruin, squalor all around as nature tries to reclaim the world. But with the arrival of strangers from other worlds comes the awakening of old magics and rumors of strange things abound.

【 SOCIETY 】
As the world between all worlds, the people of Anstaz (in general) are accustomed to all types. Seisa and Samak are quite civilized with strict laws regarding violence and crime. This isn't to say there isn't any corruption at all, it just isn't visible. The people are, generally, open-minded and accepting, though there is some prejudice against obvious non-humans.
Further away from the city centers, Anstaz gets more lawless. Slums crop up among the ruined buildings and crumbled roads and it's essentially like the lawless Wild West of Earth's history. Until one reaches the Outlands where, supposedly, no one lives. There are rumors of strange creatures and happenings that keep people away. But are those rumors true?

【 TECHNOLOGY 】
Tech in Anstaz is mostly pre-1980s Earth. Other than the wireless device provided at arrival, there are no cellular or GPS devices. TVs and VCRs exist, radios are more popular. Cars exist but are costly to maintain and few have their own. Most get around via bicycles, walking, or the public transit (mostly street cars and busses) that move in the developed areas of Seisa and Samak.
